ABOUT Colorado Blues Society's Blues In The Schools...
The story of the Blues is in many ways the story of America. The Colorado Blues Society is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to creating a greater awareness and wider appreciation of the American indigenous art form, the Blues.
Our Blues in the Schools program, as the name suggests, takes the Blues into our schools relating the music to the school’s curriculum in ways that make a difference in how students learn. We can tailor presentations to the needs of the school in topics such as math, social studies, history, language arts, geography, women and minorities, and of course music. The objective of these presentations is to educate your students about the native art form of Blues-related music by providing informative and interactive performances.
We have several musicians who work with us in our program. They offer a variety of musical styles and presentations. We have harmonica players who present a history of Delta Blues and harmonica players who give a musical presentation while offering a history of the blues from pre-slavery times. There are also presenters who focus on British Blues with electric guitar. As more musicians develop their programs, we are able to offer additional choices. Please discuss options with us.
These presentations are provided by the Colorado Blues Society, at no cost to your school. The curriculum will have a Blues focus and can be adapted to fit your students, school and teacher needs. Our mission is to let young folks know the importance of this American art form and how it has influenced other styles of music, right up to the present.
For information on how your school can take advantage of this unique program, please contact Karen Lockman, CBS Blues in the Schools Committee Chairperson, at 970-686-2888 or email her at education@coblues.com.
Sincerely,
Blues in the Schools Committee
