This year, Denver's most talked about annual all-star concert event expands to a two-night festival with proceeds benefiting the Colorado Blues Society's Blues in the Schools programs. The 3rd Annual Bob Dylan Birthday Tribute will be held Friday, May 23rd and Saturday, May 24th at The Falcon in Englewood, Colorado. More than 80 Colorado musicians will perform the songs of recent Pulitzer Prize winner Bob Dylan, celebrating his 67th Birthday while raising funds for a great local music education service.

The Colorado Blues Society leads the FREE Blues in the Schools community service education program and sponsors shows to hook up performers and venues in Colorado. Their Blues in the Schools Ambassadors continue to visit Colorado schools on a regular basis. Educators who may want a Blues visit from their talented groups are encouraged to contact the Colorado Blues Society at 303-415-2737.

In 2006, local musician and event producer Dewey Paul Moffitt, of the Dewey Paul Band, created the initial "Dylan65" event which featured 36 Colorado musicians paying tribute on Dylan's 65th Birthday. The event was a sensational success and returned last year with more than 50 area musicians performing at "Dylan66". The excitement generated at these events spawned the All-Star Bob Dylan cover group, Dylan66 which toured all over Colorado last summer. Previous tributes have featured inspiring and soulful renditions of Dylan material in both the acoustic and electric formats. Members of Jerry Garcia Band, Leftover Salmon, Double Parked, The Railbenders, Sonia Dada, The Trampolines, and more have joined Moffitt on stage along with prominent area singer-songwriters like the late and great Terry Dalton.

This year's festival style line-up will feature many repeat performers, as well as several bands and up and coming singer-songwriters. Scheduled to appear are: Dylan66, Arnie J. Green Band, Dan Treanor & David Booker, Junior Basco, Double Parked, Dewey Paul Band, John McKay, The Lovely & Talented, Dwight Mark, Scott Baxendale, Mike Wolf, The Hippogriffs, Matt and Cheyenne Kowal, Tori Pater & Friends, Peter Stelling, Breaking & Entering, Chella Negro, Deja Groove, Jeb Martin, Mike Studeny, Eddie Wesselhoff, Dave Preston Band, Jennifer Friedman, Scott Anderson, Manahmanah, Eric McClennan, The Propane Daisies, Anna Z., A Melodic Daydream, Michael Schenkelberg, John Bundy & Joan Morris, Ricky Posadas, and many more still to be announced!

Their will be an additional Bowling for Blues fundraiser held at The Falcon Bowl on the afternoon of Dylan’s birthday, Saturday, May 24th. Details will be announced soon. The owners of Gothic Theatre have launched the new and exciting multi-use entertainment hot spot: The Falcon – Denver’s premier all-in-one gathering place. A Rock-N-Bowl ambiance combined with a SCI-FI motif is the name of the game for the brand new, 250-person capacity venue located just two doors south of the historic Gothic.

Dewey Paul Moffitt, 36, is a local singer-songwriter, event producer, and audio engineer. His resume includes working over six years as an audio engineer for Kroenke Sports Enterprises at Pepsi Center; festival director for Performance International (LODO Music Festival, Denver Blues & Bones); a concert promoter in Gainesville, Florida; got his start in the business at age 19 setting up dressing rooms for the Grateful Dead with legendary San Francisco promoter Bill Graham; a musician since the age of 9.

Dylan66 Pays Tribute to a Living Legend at Cowboys Bar-B-Que

"I've been trying to come up with a funny story or joke about our name," says Dewey Paul, singer and guitarist with Dylan66, "but the truth is, it's Bob Dylan’s age." But Dylan66 is not your average cover band, in fact, they’re not a cover band at all. The lead vocalist for the band is female vocalist Chella Negro who Dewey describes as the "voice of the band." Now that’s a novel way to approach that classic Bob Dylan style... with a lady singer.

Don't call Dylan 66 a cover band.

"We don't like to think of ourselves as a cover group," guitarist and vocalist Dewey Moffitt said. " We try to keep our own unique style while we play Dylan's songs."

"What About Bob?"

Dewey Paul Moffitt is somewhat of a tribute giver extraordinaire. The co-owner of the Oriental Theater, 4335 West 44th Avenue, Moffitt has paid homage to Van Morrison, Bruce Springsteen, Tom Waits and the Band. But last year's Bob Dylan tribute, Dylan65 (dubbed so because it was held on Dylan's 65th birthday), drew by far the biggest crowd. "Bob's crossovers reach every genre of music. He is the best to interpret in your own way," Moffitt says. Last year's monumental response motivated Moffitt to do it again... but this time, even bigger...
